Cultivating Kindness

During the week of May 12th, Station Stretch had a Kindness Week challenge for the students to complete. On Monday, the students handed out breakfast treats to neighbouring businesses to strengthen positive community relationships; during our daily walk on Tuesday, they picked up garbage around the community. We have "work completion Wednesday" which is a day where the students need to complete their work before they leave. On this day, we challenged them to stay until everyone finishes their work. Students demonstrated teamwork, accountability, and were helping each other. Lastly, on Thursday, we had the students fill out a reflection with acts of kindness they demonstrated throughout the week or recognized in others, highlighting appreciation of kindness and self-awareness.

After a successful completion of the challenges, we rewarded them with Go Karting on May 22nd! Our goal with Kindness Week is to promote and encourage being kind to ourselves and one another to cultivate a compassionate and positive environment. Our objective is to show the students that being kind is not limited to just this week. It is a value that is much needed which carries on every day and beyond the classroom.
