Baby chicks grow connections
Horizons students recently participated in a chick hatching experience provided by a company called Nanny McCluckins.
The purpose was to help our students to open up and to connect with nature and each other. As we waited for the chicks to hatch, our students showed great interest in the process and would check on the incubator every day. One of the benefits we noticed was our attendance improved greatly. We talked as a class about the egg development and found the students to be very engaged.
Through this project, we not only nurtured the growth of some adorable little chicks but fostered confidence in our students as they learned to hold and care for their little chicks. Students from the other programs in the building also came by to visit and play with the tiny chicks. It was rewarding to watch our kids open up and connect with other students in a way they hadn’t done before.
