School Story Focus 2026-2027

School Learning Focus for the 2026/2027 school yearStation Stretch Secondary will focus on strengthening students’ literacy and numeracy skills through cross-curricular teaching, explicit reading instruction, and engaging, grade-appropriate texts across all subject areas.
Evidence-Informed Rationale (WHY)While our sample size is small, grade 10 and 12 literacy and numeracy assessment results suggest that students are generally stronger in literacy than numeracy. The numeracy assessment requires students to read and understand information presented in texts, graphs, tables, charts, and infographics. As a result, we will focus on strengthening literacy skills across all subject areas to support student success in numeracy.
Priority LearnersWe will focus on grades 9 to 12 students.
Baseline Data Currently most students are achieving 1 or 2 on the four-point proficiency scale, indicating that many learners are developing, but have not yet consistently demonstrated, the numeracy competencies expected for their grade level.
Action Statement (HOW)Teachers will focus teaching literacy strategies such as decoding information, interpreting text features, identifying key details, and making meaning from multiple forms of communication across all subject areas to strengthen students' ability to access, understand, and apply information in numeracy contexts.
Intended Impact (SO WHAT)This approach will support the development of literacy skills that are needed to improve confidence and achievement in both literacy and numeracy.
Evidence of Impact (HOW WE WILL KNOW)We will monitor Grade 10 numeracy assessment results.

Alignment Statement

This focus supports the District’s Strategic Priority 1: Success for All Learners and it’s first objective to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for all learners.
