Station Stretch

Station Stretch is one of the programs offered at Minoru Site. It is an Academic Completion Program for students who would benefit from small class sizes, a system of accountability, and additional support and feedback. The school can accommodate students who need to complete Grade 8 to 10 in the subjects of English, Math, Social Studies, and Science, and recognizes that there are diverse learners who would benefit from different settings and strategies. To accommodate this, the Station Stretch School Program offers:

  • Skilled and experienced instructors that utilize technology and traditional teaching techniques to better engage students in the learning process
  • Smaller group instruction to facilitate learning and better acquaint the teachers and students
  • Youth Support Workers who work in the classroom so there are always two adults present to assist students with assignments
  • Individualized Education Plans taking in account the students' strengths and needs
  • Access to a Resource Teacher who provides academic assessments and specific skill building strategies
  • Support for a developing teen’s social/emotional needs
  • Parental access to weekly student progress and an opportunity to consult with school staff

Students are placed in a Foundations Building or Grade 10 Completion (GTC) class depending on the student’s goals, prior learning, and academic achievement. The Foundations class works on Grade 9 and 10 material while the GTC class is focused solely on Grade 10 material. The GTC class is reserved for students who have a solid academic background, reliable attendance, and steady work habits.

Station Stretch intake is semi-continuous. School administrators and counsellors submit referrals through the District Based Team. Home schools then reach out to the school to arrange an in-person consultation with the student and family.
